A Handmade Christmas

I feel very blessed to be part of a family that is full of creative, talented people.  It was so fun to receive gifts that were handmade and now that Christmas is over I can post pictures of the gifts that my husband and I made.

My sister-in-law gave me this beautiful wreath.  What a fun and unique way to make a wreath, it even includes yarn that I spun on it!

All of the great-grandsons got fun pillows made by my grandma.  They love them and it brought back fond memories for me.  We received some really fun handmade gifts as kids growing up.

This picture is really bad, but they are a pair of earrings that my brother made.  He takes coins and lays them on the railroad track near his house.  He then does etching on them and attaches twisted wire.

This is the felted wall hanging that I made for my brother.  It measures 3′ x 4′.  He gave me a gorgeous log bed for Christmas last year…

I have always wanted a log bed, but I also love the look of wrought iron beds and he included both.  It was a complete shock and I treasure it every day.

Here is the finished wall hanging for our house and I gave it to my husband for Christmas.  This last week has been really long and I finally finished it Christmas day at my parents.  I still need to sew the ribbon along the top for hanging.

This wasn’t a gift for anyone, but when I showed it to my friend she had a great idea – a felted pillow…

and the second felted pillow went to my very special friend, Kristine.

There were many more gifts that were given that I didn’t take pictures of.  It was a wonderful Christmas!

A boy, an old lab, and a can of spray paint…

My husband and son love this time of year because it is the start of duck hunting season.  They have been busy building carts to haul their decoys and using spray paint to camoflauge the cart and various blinds, including a huge cardboard box for my son to play with.  Unfortunately the can of spray paint was left out… 

Yesterday my son was playing outside in the backyard.  He was playing with his tractors, dump trucks, and various digging equipment.  He was very content playing with his toys, so I took advantage of this time to do some housework.  I kept checking on him and all seemed to be fine.  Major, our old lab, was out doing his thing – which at 13 years old is a lot of sleeping. 

I was sweeping the kitchen floor and the two of them came up on the back porch.  Major looked like this…

I asked my son what happened to Major???  He said that he fell in the dirt.  This was some what believable because he isn’t very steady on his feet and has been falling more and more lately.  There is some fresh dirt in the backyard because my husband ground a huge stump back there this last weekend.  I thought there was probably more to the story but didn’t see the point in pressing the matter.

When my husband got home he also asked our son what happened to Major.  We thought he might come out with the truth if asked again…he did and we both had to leave the room because we started laughing. 

He said that he was camoflauging him because he didn’t want the ducks to see him 🙂 

I would have loved to see how he did this – Major may be old but he isn’t small and he is still strong.  I don’t know if he did it while he was sleeping???  Poor old man is now sporting a camoflauge mask.  The cans of spray paint are now on one of the top shelves in the garage! 

A morning romp…

From the American Heritage Dictionary – romp v. 1. To play or frolic boisterously.  2. Slang. To win a race or game easily. 

Both of these definitions apply to my son and Danica’s run around the pasture yesterday morning.

In order to beat her, he had to use some cunning turns…

but she would easily catch up and pass him, which he thought was hilarious!

She’s starting to look like a big dog!

They both had a great time romping around the pasture on a beautiful morning.

Then they went and munched on blackberries for awhile 🙂

 

A Trip to the River

My husband’s family owns some property along a river in the area and it has been turned into a camping place for the family.  Each site sits above the river and has stairs leading down to the river.  It is a beautiful location and a wonderful get away…

We spent the recent holiday weekend there.

The weather wasn’t super hot like it has been, but we couldn’t keep our son out of the water!  Saturday afternoon we caught 21 crawdads – it was a lot of fun!!!

They recently blasted the hill across the river to put in a better road and the swallows took advantage of the holes to build nests in.  The rock wall was alive with chirping.  Here are some more pictures from my daily walks…

I don’t know what kind of flowers these are, but they are very pretty…
