Kenleigh’s Chevelle – my favorite lamb from 2007. I was there when she was born and she came out running and ready to tackle the world 🙂
Windy Acres Dusty Dear was acquired from Sandra VanLiew. She likes to pose for the camera.
Snow!!! Ok, it wasn’t a lot – but it was still fun!
It gave Darby super powers – he can fly!
For some reason, our dark colored ducks blended in, while our white duck stuck out like a sore thumb 🙂
We had some mallards stop by our pond for the afternoon.
Theron and Kate had a great time running and playing in it.
Today I needed to spruce up the barn a little. I had Paisley, my whippet, out there with me. Our barn is an old chicken barn and is 320′ long. She loves to run the length of the barn. I was spreading straw and all of a sudden the sheep came charging into the barn. I ran out to see what the problem was and I was greeted by Paisley. She must have jumped out of one of the windows. She proceeded to ignore me and race around the pasture. She LOVES to run! So, Magoo decided to lay down the law and chase her out of HIS pasture. She quickly discovered that she could outrun him and played with him a little bit. She finally realized that he was kind of scary and ran to me for safety – naughty girl!

Violet is one of my favorite sheep, but sometimes I wonder why 🙂
She was one our first lambs and our first ewe lamb.
Here she is with her mom, Zettle’s Blackberry.
She has the prettiest blue eyes.
She has a beautiful fleece, but it is usually too dirty to do anything with because she is the one that is trying to climb on top of me while I am feeding. Shooing her away doesn’t work because she is deaf! I discovered she was deaf several years ago. I called all of the girls into the barn and went out to do my nightly scan of the pasture. There in the middle of the pasture was Violet. I walked out calling to her and was afraid that she was dead. I started clapping my hands and she didn’t even flinch. When I got to her I bent down and touched her. She lifted her head and looked around and was quite shocked to see that all of her friends had left her! She jumped up and ran to the barn.
Her first set of lambs were beautiful little girls. She has had 4 lilac boys since. She is an ok mom, I think part of the problem is that she is deaf. Her lambs learn really quick that they have to stay with her because she isn’t going to come find them!
Violet with one of her ewe lambs.
She is the only ewe that I have truly had to pull lambs. Her second set of lambs were very over due and on day 155 she looked like she was going into labor. A couple hours passed with no progress. Luckily she is a very laid back and friendly ewe because I was by myself and had to help her. Her lambs were breech and tangled with each other. Thankfully I was able to get both of them out and lambs and mom were just fine!
One of Violet’s lilac boys – Sidekick.
She is my husband’s least favorite ewe because she is always in the way and likes to bully her way through anything. Despite all of this she makes me laugh and will stay here despite my 3 strike rule 🙂
Lambs are due in less than 10 days and the girls are starting to get big…
they are also starting to get crabby! Feeding time is a little dangerous and my legs are sporting a few more bruises 🙂
This is bide a wee Janis. She isn’t a very long bodied ewe, so her belly hangs a little low! We are expecting lambs from 27 ewes this year. I love the anticipation!
We currently have 4 dogs and you might say they are an eclectic crew 🙂 We have an old lab, a border collie, a cardigan welsh corgi, and a whippet. They each have their own quirky personalities!
Major is my husband’s 12 1/2 year old lab. He is still going strong and trys to keep everyone in line!
In his prime, he loved to go duck hunting.
Thanks to my husband who gave me a Canon Digital Rebel camera for Christmas several years ago, I realized that I love taking pictures! This cold weather has brought a lot of birds in looking for food – giving me a wonderful opportunity!
I think this Red Tail Hawk is looking for more than the corn I threw out 🙂
Have a wonderful New Year’s Day!
