Darby (the sheep) went down a week ago and despite treating her as the vet prescribed, we lost her Christmas night. She was such a special girl and I am really going to miss her.
She was 10 and in sheep years that is getting up there, but I wasn’t ready to part with her yet.
She came to us in a round about way and I am so glad we said “yes” when we received the call about buying back some of our sheep along with 20 others 🙂
She blessed us with a set of beautiful triplets in 2007 and I am so fortunate to have both of her daughters. Joan at Mud Ranch has the handsome brother.
We did a necropsy on Friday morning and it looks like she died of complications from a hernia that was discovered after shearing about a month ago. The vet assured me that I did all that I could for her, but it is still really hard to lose the special ones.
I am sorry for your loss of Darby, she was an excellent mother and beautiful girl with beautiful babies. I feel fortunate to have her son.
I’m really sorry! So hard to lose them at any time, but what a damper on Christmas….
I’m so sorry for your loss 😦 We had a hard loss right before christmas too, so I can really feel for you.
Her babies are beautiful, as was she!
Sorry to read about Darby – I’m glad you have pictures of her to keep her memory bright for you.
It never occurred to me sheep would have hernias! What a loss.
I love your handmade Christmas, and you have a very artistic and talented family. The log bed , WOW ! And your needle felting is spectacular.
Oh Shannon – I am so sorry about Darby:( She was a great momma!
Shannon, I am so sorry to hear that you lost Darby. She was such a beautiful girl. I lost Atocha to a hernia and it was heart breaking to not be able to do anything.
