We have a pair of wood ducks visiting/living on our pond and it has become my mission to get good pictures of them without disturbing them too much. This has proved to be quite the challenge. They are very ellusive and seem to know when I have my camera and when I don’t. They sit there almost sticking their tongues out at me when I don’t have it and fly off almost immediately when I do have it. There isn’t much cover around our pond, so being sneaky really isn’t an option.
Here are my first attempts…
They are ok, but not exactly what I was looking for.
I captured them on the pond one day while I was doing chores and I just happened to have my little camera in my jacket pocket…closer, but still not what I was wanting.
I changed my morning chores a little a few days ago and I noticed that the ducks seemed ok with me walking by the pond and they weren’t flying off. Unfortunately, the rain has been steady and non-stop the last couple of mornings. Finally this morning it wasn’t raining and the ducks were on the pond…
Gotcha!
I absolutely love wood ducks.
The colors and patterns are so vibrant.
It looks like they are nesting in the trees behind our property in the creek. I have really enjoyed their presence here.
Yup; that’s a mighty fine capture! (And that looks like TWO pair of wood ducks to me. 🙂
Thanks! Yes, you are right, there were two pairs living here. One pair has stayed and the other pair has been spotted in the creek behind the neighbor’s house. Thanks to the rain, there are ponds everywhere at the moment 😉
Priceless!
Great capture – your patience sure paid off
They are beautiful birds.
