This was not the original title of this post, but things changed this afternoon!  The help that we called in, jumped ship – literally.

We have had a tremendous amount of rain, in fact I can’t remember the last time I saw the sun.  This has created a problem in our pastures. 

The sheep are getting lost!

In normal years, I would have started mowing the pastures by now, but this is not a normal year.  There is so much standing water out there!!!  

So, I called the neighbor to see if we could borrow a few of their cows to help eat down the grass.

The extra help arrived last Friday, unfortunately I wasn’t home and he threw them in a pasture with the sheep.  I had hoped to move the sheep to another pasture before they arrived, but everything was fine when I got home. 

  They spent some time getting acquainted…

then the cows started chasing the sheep…

and vice versa.

My poor dog was a little perplexed with all of the commotion.

I’m glad we don’t own cows, but they are fun to watch… 

and I love their noses.  This guy was very friendly 🙂

Of course, this one was my favorite!  Look at all of those splashes of color!

They seemed to be happy and there was certainly enough food out there, but yesterday afternoon while I was doing chores I realized there was only 1 cow in the pasture instead of 4 – uh oh!!!   A little detective work on my husband’s part showed that they jumped the back fence and were over at the neighbor’s house.

Their moms are in a pasture near the neighbors and it looks like they were headed home.  They have been weaned since February, but they still missed their mommies.  I was hoping they would be here a little longer than 5 days!!!  Oh well – hopefully the sun comes out soon and I can start mowing.
