The Oregon Coast isn’t known for its warm weather, but we lucked out yesterday!
We have been stuck in the fog for the last couple of days and the sunshine we found at the coast was a welcome sight.
My son’s best buddy lives up the road and we all went on a field trip. My friend, Andrea, started homeschooling this year and we have recently done the same.
We started in Newport and visited the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There were 5 cars in the parking lot when we pulled in! We almost had the place to ourselves 😉 We spent a lot of time at each of the exhibits and really enjoyed ourselves.
The highlight for the boys were the maps they got and they had a great time deciding where to go next.
We saw…
striped fish…
weird fish…
REALLY big crabs. These are Japanese Spider crabs and are the biggest in the world. Their leg span can be up to 13 feet!
and adorable little puffins.
This was another exciting part for the boys – the beginning of the shark exhibit. There is a tunnel you walk through and sharks are swimming all around.
We also got to touch starfish, urchins, sharks, sting ray, and anemones.
From there we headed South towards Florence in search of some seals and/or sealions.
We found some…
pelicans…
big waves…
blow holes…
tide pools…
treasures…
and finally some seals and sea lions!
We had to do some hiking and rock climbing, but we were able to get a little closer.
Mostly Harbor Seals, but there were a few Sea Lions there as well. They were all sunning themselves on the big rocks.
I would have to say that the best thing we found were lots of smiles and good memories!
Looks like you had a good day. I absolutely love the last picture of you and Theron, that’s a keeper.
Nice!!! Great memories…..
You were at one of my most favorite places on earth! What a great time you all had. The boys are so cute and I like the concentration on their faces as they check out their maps.
