I am so happy no one told this little hen that sitting on rocks was pointless. I am very happy that no one discouraged her from trying to hatch her ‘rocks’. Her’s is the ultimate story of dreaming big and aiming high.
Here is the original post about our broody hen.
I couldn’t let such determination go unrewarded, so I ordered some hatching eggs and replaced the rocks.
21 days later…we have chicks!
This was the first one to hatch. It is an olive egger – Black Copper Maran crossed with an Ameraucana.
I had to be very patient and wait for the rest to hatch…
The total count is 6 – 4 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and 2 Olive Eggers.
I love the coloring of the BLRW chicks.
How many times have you had an idea, just to have it shot down by someone? How many times have you wanted to do something, but haven’t felt it was within reach? Here is a little inspiration from a special little hen. Don’t let the little road blocks in life keep you from your dreams!
This proud mama started with rocks and now has precious little chicks to care for.

How wonderful! Conrats! Great pictures.
She is one beautiful hen! I love her markings and her little chicks are adorable! I am a first time mama to 3, almost 3 week old chicks! Excited to have eggs in the future and have some new little friends! ~Maryjane
Nothing says ‘Spring’ like chicks! Have fun with your chicks.
Great post and hooray for the little red hen.
How neat! She’s such a pretty hen, and I’m sure it’s exciting to have the new chicks too-enjoy:@)
How inspiring…. we all need someone to believe in our big dreams…someone who see’s how hard we are willing to work at reaching them…. someone who knows we have such conviction to sit on rocks believing they will hatch into beautiful chicks someday!
thank you!

Terrific. Lovely chicks Shannon. What a fun hen you have!
It is good to have those around us that are dream-makers, catchers and sharers. Thank God that hen had you! I’m sitting on my rocks…..here’s to dreams come true! Love this story….you rock, and your little dog too! Seize the Day!
They are so adorable. Great story and it goes to show that dreams do come true.
Aww! So cute!
I love this post. Yes, people constantly try to rip your dreams from you. Maybe it is because they are afraid to dream. Not sure.
I would LOVE for one of my hens next spring to go broody. The sight of that momma with chicks is perfect. Exactly as it should be. Natural. Here is to hoping!
P.S. I found your lovely post on Farm Friend Friday.
Thanks for stopping by everyone! Mama hen is doing great with her chicks and is VERY protective of them today. It will fun to watch them as they start venturing out a little more.
Oh my. How cute is that? Worth the wait for sure!
Those Blue Laced Chickens have magnificent plumage, I hope the broody hen proves to be a good mother.
They do have magnificent plumage. I got some great pictures of her today. She is proving to be an excellent mother and I could sit out there all day watching her and the chicks. They ventured out quite a bit and everytime she saw me she would fluff up, talk to the babies and they would scurry under her – so cute!
You must be a very special person to care so for your little hen. I would do the same thing (and have done!). Good for you!
Ah, thank you.
That was so wonderful for you to help her with her dreams! Very sweet post.
